This weekend, UntitledTown Book and Author Festival returns to Green Bay after a six-year hiatus. And the best part? It is all free and open to the public. From September 25-27, there will be events featuring over 40 writers and speakers from Wisconsin and beyond.
Founded in 2016, UntitledTown has been a literary force in Green Bay, uniting thousands of people around a love of books and storytelling. The festival has brought in big name speakers like Margaret Atwood, R.L. Stine, Rebecca Makkai, Roxane Gay, Nickolas Butler, and more. Attending the festival, it always felt like there was something magical in the air, as if the whole city was alive with excitement. And now UntitledTown is back after the pandemic brought things to a halt. Under the leadership of President and co-founder Wendy Wimmer, the UntitledTown Book and Author Festival has been taken on by The Art Garage (Cedar Center Arts), which is one of the many locations at which festival events will be held.
UntitledTown is more than a festival. It is a community movement and a vital civic and economic engine. It is a space where people of all ages and walks of life can connect and celebrate literature and stories, while also bringing traffic to the local community spaces and businesses who make the festival possible. By keeping everything free and accessible to all, UntitledTown is “removing barriers to education and literary engagement, ensuring that stories remain a shared human experience.”
There is truly something for everyone. UntitledTown will have live readings, discussions, genre meet-ups, workshops, craft talks, panels, a book fair, and more. The festival will even host several “Silent Book Clubs” over the course of the weekend, offering a chance to “unwind, disconnect to connect, and read alongside fellow bibliophiles in a cozy atmosphere.”
Jill Swenson will be speaking at the festival for four events: “Writers in Conversation: Writing Family Drama” on Friday at 5 pm at Pages and Pours, “Craft Talk: How to Use Research in Your Writing” on Saturday at 10 am at the Neville Public Museum, “Taking the Me Out of Memoir” on Saturday at 3 pm at the Brown County Library East Branch, and “Panel Discussion: The Late Debut: Am I Too Old to Be an Author?” on Sunday at 3pm at the Neville Public Museum.
